About GRO

Research with a clear purpose.

Founded in 2019, Glaucoma Research Organization (GRO), LLC is an independent, physician-scientist-led research organization focused on glaucoma and related ophthalmic research.

Our current work centers on investigator-initiated studies in normal-tension glaucoma, early retinal ganglion cell dysfunction, and potentially modifiable risk factors beyond intraocular pressure.

Our mission and vision →
Research programs

Four connected scientific priorities.

01 / DISEASE

Normal-Tension Glaucoma

Understanding glaucomatous injury and vulnerability beyond elevated intraocular pressure.

02 / FUNCTION

Early Neuronal Dysfunction

Investigating pattern electroretinography as an objective measure of retinal ganglion cell function.

03 / SYSTEMIC FACTORS

Modifiable Non-IOP Risk Factors

Examining obstructive sleep apnea and other systemic contributors to glaucomatous injury.

04 / FUTURE DIRECTIONS

Neuroprotection

Exploring whether early neuronal stress offers opportunities for functional recovery and earlier intervention.

Clinical research

From pilot findings to longitudinal investigation.

Prospective pilot research

Preliminary investigator-initiated research has observed improvements in electrophysiological measures of retinal ganglion cell function following treatment for obstructive sleep apnea.

These observations warrant further longitudinal investigation.
